The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed Dragon Lady, is a single-engine, high-altitude aircraft flown by the US Air Force and previously flown by the CIA. Developed in the early 1950s by the secret Lockheed factory known as the "Skunk Works", the U-2 was designed to fly over the territory of the USSR between US bases in Turkey and Norway. From 1956 to 1960, at least 30 photographic reconnaissance missions were flown over the Soviet Union in U-2s operated by the CIA.
