On Febraury 1, 1967, Fokker signed a contract with Fairchild-Hiller for licensed production of a shortened version of the F28. The American version of the F28 can accommodate 50 passengers. The agreement with Fairchild-Hiller stated that Fairchild would have the right to sell both the FH-228 and the F28 within the north and south American continents. Fokker will eventually market both types throughout the rest of the world. Fokker used the F28 for passenger transportation and for cargo-carrying purposes. The first production version of the F28 was the Mk. 1000 which has a seating capacity of 65 passengers and later, other versions became available.
